Ohio Cannabis Regulations

State Cannabis Overview: Ohio is one of the oldest states in the US to decriminalize the possession and use of Cannabis in 1975. However, it wasn’t until 2016 that medical Cannabis was legalized for 21 qualifying conditions.

There have been moves in recent times to legalize recreational Marijuana; however, it met strong resistance. Another proposal with over 130,000 signatures is expected to go towards the 2023 ballot.

Licensing: Ohio started awarding licenses in 2018 through the Division of Cannabis Control (DCC). The state awarded 58 licenses in September 2018 and has increased that number to 131 by granting another 73 licenses via a lottery system. This means that towns like Delaware, Cambridge, New Lexington, and others will now house a few dispensaries.

The state of Ohio offers four types of Cannabis licenses, including the following:

  • Medical Cannabis cultivation license
  • Medical Cannabis processor
  • Medical Cannabis dispensary (pharmacy)
  • Medical Cannabis testing laboratories

Local Authority: Local authorities in Ohio have the power to create and enforce further regulations for the Cannabis businesses within their jurisdictions. They can make laws regarding zoning, facility structure, operating hours, and manner of operation.

These stringent regulations and restrictions can frustrate your efforts to find suitable properties to invest in or establish your business. Let our professionals ease you of that burden and connect you with properties with promising ROI. Send us a message today! Or call: 18773608839
